Good Afternoon,

Our database server occasionallys need to restart as we have scheduled windows security updates that occur on the machine. However, I've noticed that each time this occurs my "maniac" job ceases to run. Looking into this more I've found that the "SqlBackupAndFtp Service" is failing to automatically start back up although it's startup type is set to automatic. My first attempt at manually starting the service prompted me with:

"The SqlBackupAndFtp Service service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."

But the second attempt was successful. I had issues getting the service to run automatically after installing the SqlBackupAndFtp that I posted regarding:

http://sqlbackupandftp.c...ce-failed-to-start.aspx

Any ideas on what could be causing the service not to automatically start? Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you and have a great day.

Best Regards,
Corey

Hello again,

I've added retry attempts on the 1st and 2nd failure of the service failing to starting up. Hopefully that will help resolve it not starting, but I'd still like to figure out the cause behind the issue.

Thanks,
Corey

Could you please:

1) Download (http://sqlbackupandftp.com/download/SqlBakSetup.exe) and install the latest version.

2) Create a file named "service-log.on" in the program installation folder (e.g. "C:\Program Files\Pranas.NET\SQLBackupAndFTP\")

3) Try to start "SqlBackupAndFtp Service" again and get the exception

4) Find a log file in common application data folder (should be like "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Pranas.NET" or "C:\ProgramData\Pranas.NET")

5) Send the log to us

Good Morning Alex,

I apologize for the delay in my response. I've set up the server with the logging features asked but cannot reproduce the issue until the server restarts as this seems to be the only time the issue occurs. Since this is a production server, I'm going to have to wait until it's restarted on it's scheduled time for updates. Once this occurs, I'll provide the log information for you. Thank you for your assistance. Have a great day.

Best Regards,
Corey

Same problem here on Windows 2008 R2 (64bit)
Version 6.5.5 installed
I tried to run sbfstarter.exe and got an error "Missing MSVCR100.dll"
Unsure if that is connected

I have notices quite a few people with the same error.

Regards
Steve
