Good Morning,

I've installed a registered copy of SqlBackupAndFtp Lifetime (version 6.4.3.30062) on a SQL 2000 database server. When I schedule a job to run I noticed that I didn't receive an error notification e-mail of success or failure. Checking the Event Viewer - Application Log I found the following entry when the scheduled job was to run:

ERROR:
Unable to generate a temporary class (result=1).
error CS2001: Source file 'C:\WINNT\TEMP\zbus4k2c.0.cs' could not be found
error CS2008: No inputs specified

Any idea on what could be causing this? I have a copy of the log file as a result of restarting the service with "service-log.on" in the application folder. Please let me know if you would like me to send this to you. Thank you and have a great day.

Best Regards,
Corey

Hi Corey,

This is a known issue and we are going to update this part of the application.
Currently I can suggest you check permissions for C:\WINNT\TEMP folder for account of the service (it should have read and write permissions) or try to change environment variable with temporary folder.

Best regards,
Alex.

Good Morning Alex,

I've added the user I'm running the scheduled job as to have have read/write access on the specified folder. However, now I receive the following error in the application log:

ERROR:
Access to the registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Pranas.NET\SQLBackupAndFTP\ScheduledTasks\704c122e-6399-482f-a84f-80596a04b945' is denied.

Good Morning Alex,

The service is currently set to log on as "Local System" but set to run the scheduled job as another user. Is this error related to the "Local System" account or the user whom I'm attempting to run the scheduled job as? I'm guessing that it's related to the user I'm attempting to run the scheduled job as since some of the articles/forum posts I've found describe the "Local System" user as:

Forum Post
Local System : Completely trusted account, moreso than the administrator account. There is nothing on a single box that this account can not do and it has the right to access the network as the machine (this requires Active Directory and granting the machine account permissions to something)

If this is the case, would I need to have the rights elevated for the user I'm impersonating as to gain access to the registry?

Hi Corey,

How about permissions to the registry? Could you please check if system account has access to the registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Pranas.NET\SQLBackupAndFTP\ScheduledTasks...'?

Hi Corey,
The issue was fixed in the latest release 6.4.5. Could you please try it?

Best regards,
Alex.

Good Morning,

Thank you for providing the update; this has fixed the initial error.

As for the registry key error, we checked the permissions on the folder for the "SYSTEM" account and this has full control. What we ended up having to do for this server is provide access rights in the registry for the user provided in "Advanced Settings" - "Run scheduled job as" .

One item to note is that this server is running Windows Server 2003 whereas the other server where the additional registry permission was not needed is Windows Server 2003 R2. Could this difference be causing the issue?

Best Regards,
Corey
