When SQLbackupandFTP is running on a guest system that is set up on a VmWare ESX4.1 host, the cpu utilisation of the guest system will remain at 100%. Once you connect using Remote Desktop (mstsc) in console/admin mode and log in to the guest OS, the cpu utilisation returns back to normal. CPU utilisation is looked at from the vSphere client / Hosts and Clusters screen, virtual machines tab. This issue happens when you schedule the backup of the (SQL2008 Express R2) database. The SQLbackpandFTP job is configured to copy the backup file to a UNC folder after successful backup. The issue still exists in version 5.7.7.24417.
The issue can be repeated if you schedule a backupjob and log off or disconnect from the Remote Desktop session, leaving the screen in 'Press CTRL-ALT-DEL to start'. From the vSphere client you can then see the CPU remaining at 100% after the scheduled job is finished (or at least cpu remains very high) until you log in with RDP or using the console.
Running as guest on Esx4.1 (260247) Host brand: IBM Host type: x3650 Mark I (7979WF2) Host processor: Intel Xeon E5335 2Ghz Quad core Host memory: 4Gb Guest OS: Windows 2003 server standard SP2 Guest Memory: 2Gb Guest Database: SQL Server Express 2008 R2 32bit

Dear Friend, Thank you for providing the details for the problem, but I don't see how could we possible help you without having a configuration similar to yours. Sorry, I have no idea how to assist you.

I am sorry to hear that because I am sure that others who are using the product on a physical server experience the same issues but are unable to see it happen because the problem disapperars as soon as you log on to the console.

BrandsmW, If you could create a simpler scenario with that problem that we can replicate, we'd greatly appreciate it and make every effort to find the problem (if any).

Hey, I have exactly the same problem while testing the software for our purposes. I use a very small database (200Megs) and found exactly the same happens to me. The CPU utilization spikes on the ESXi server (one the porcessor on which the VM is running) I have found though that if I change the task to stop after a certain amount of time (10 minutes in my case) in the windows task scheduler it does kill the process correctly and I also tested the restoration of the backup which also worked fine.
It's a patch ... not a solution though. I have found though that if I open up the SQL backup and FTP program that also stops the CPU running amok. I hope somebody benefits from this. I am using V6 of the software.
One other important thing to note is that my systems automatically lock the computer when a screen saver comes on. When the system is locked the high CPU consumption continues but when the system is not locked it does not consume CPU resources other than the minute or so during the backup period.
