Hello.

Whenever SQLBackupAndFTP or I manually attempt to start the SqlBackupAndFtp Service I get this error:

Quote:

Could not start the SqlBackupAndFtp Service service on Local Computer.

Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

This way I can only schedule simple tasks. :(

Kind regards.

Most probably your OS is missing something from Microsoft (service pack or .NET framework update)
Just search the web for "Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." and your OS version
You'll find something like this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886695

My machine is running Windows XP SP3 with:

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 SP2
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1

I just installed Microsoft .NET Framework 4 and rebooted the machine and the problem persists.

Is there anything else I might do to find what the source of the problem is?

SQL Server Management Studio Express is running fine on the same machine and it might have similar .NET Framework dependencies, no?

Could you post the full error message from Event Log? Look for "SBF Service"

ruslan, sorry for taking so long to answer.
I've searched in the Event Viewer, under all the logs (Application, System, Security) and none of them seems to have anything related to an SBF Service. The Application log does mention that a SqlBackupAndFtp simple backup job I currently have, finished successfully.
My goal is to have the "Daily 4 times" backup scenario running.

Please check v6.1.7. I believe the issue is fixed there.

cunhant,

Could you look whether the service ("SqlBackupAndFtp Service") is installed on your system? If yes then could you try to start it manually?

I'm using SqlBackupAndFtp 6.1.7.37794 Free.

The program takes longer than usual to boot up. Maybe it's attempting to start the service, no?
The program boots up without any error message.
The log file only shows usual "database backup job finished successfuly" messages without any results for "SBF" or "Service" when searching that file.

There's a "SqlBackupAndFtp Service" that runs "C:\Program Files\Pranas.NET\SQLBackupAndFTP\SbfService.exe" and it's set to start automatically but it never runs. When I manually attempt to run it, it takes around 30 secs only to display this message:

Hope it helps. :)

I am having the same problem. The service just won´t start. I just now installed the latest version, same result, did not fixed it. I do have all the net frameworks installed. I bought a standard license but at the moment it is pretty much useless if the service won´t start.

I have also tried it on another similarly configured server, and the service won´t start there either.

I have used this software in the past in other companies and it worked well, what changed this time?

Please help.

Thank you.
