The SqlBackupAndFtp service fails to start when the logon is set to Local System.
I'm running v6.2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit.
Is this a known issue?
How do I correct the problem?
(I can run the service as, for example, .\administrator but I don't want to do that!)

we need more information. what's the error? how does it appear? probably you need to look to the windows event log as well

Same as reported here, same message in the event log too. That's all there is. Can you get hold of the same OS and recreate?

I see. We thought it was fixed in 6.1.8 but it seems the problem still alive. Please give us some time for futher investigation and testing.

Will I be able to upgrade (without losing settings etc.) or do I need to uninstall/reinstall?
Is it definitely fixed for Server 2008 R2?

We did test it on Windows Server 2008 R2. You can install the new version over the old one.

No! same problem still there.
I tried with new 6.2.8 the problem is still there.
OS: 2k8 sp1 and 2k8 R2
DB: 2008 R2
please suggest.

try 6.2.9, we also had some changes regarding this problem there

First, i would like to thank for your concern and response.
i tried with 6.2.9, the error is still occurring.
as i observed, it's working on windows server 2003 and xp but not on server 2008.
I am trying to schedule full and differential backup from your software "SqlBackupandFTP" which use the property service named as "SqlBackupAndFtp Service" ie SbfService.exe file.
Event id:7000
"The SqlBackupAndFtp Service service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."
Is there any solution available?

It's working.
It's work on Standalone server and not on the DC, i hope it was service authentication problem.
