Any thoughts on why this happens?

SUMMARY:
Database Database_Name: Backup - Failure

DETAILED LOG:
12/16/2011 11:00:20 PM Creating backup of Database_Name to D:\temp
12/16/2011 11:01:47 PM Backup of Database_Name completed
12/16/2011 11:01:47 PM Zipping D:\temp\Database_Name201112162300.bak to \\pe2900\Server.Bak\SQL\Database_Name201112162300.zip
12/16/2011 11:23:56 PM ERROR: Zip failed: An unexpected internal failure occurred in the FileSystem component, or one of its descendants.
Type: Xceed.FileSystem.DiskFile
FullName: D:\temp\Database_Name201112162300.bak
12/16/2011 11:23:56 PM Removing the backup: D:\temp\Database_Name201112162300.bak
12/16/2011 11:23:56 PM Cleaning \\pe2900\Server.Bak\SQL

The db appears to be there when I open the .zip file. I am running 6.3.1.22044. I have given it a Domain Admin username & password in Advanced that has full access to the network location and I've even tried running your service as a Domain Admininistrator not the Local System Account with no luck.

Thoughts? Thanks....

This problem is related to an issue in a third-party zipping library we use in the program. We're going to implement other file compression method soon which will work well with big files.

Please consider using 7zip. It's far superior to any .zip algorithm, is available in native x64 code, and provides much smaller archives than .zip files. Do you know when you’ll have this available? Our customer would buy your product, but is likely to go Idera SQL Lite if it’s not soon. Thanks…

It's in progress. We are going to add archiving with 7-zip till end of this year.

I'm trying to backup to reasonably small dbs, one about 2.5GB and the other is truely small, about 32MB, but SQLBackupandFTP only backs up the first one. I'm using the free version for now, but I thought it would backup 2 dbs. Am I mistaken?

We've just released SQLBackupAndFTP v 6.4 with 7-zip compression.
You can find the change list at: http://sqlbackupandftp.com/download/

Got 6.4.1 installed but still having the same problem that jobs scheduled to run don't run at the scheduled time. I can run them manually, but it's like if I run a full backup as say 2:33PM and the next full backup is scheduled or 11PM, it won't run it at 11PM that day, it’ll wait until the next day to run it. I need to be able to run full backups at any time and know that the scheduled backups will run no matter what. The logs don’t even show an attempt to run the backups at the scheduled time. This was happening in 6.3 as well, but I hopped 6.4 would fix it but I guess not.

It seems you are faced with limits of free version.

What limits? There are 2 dbs and 2 scheduled jobs. That's it and meets the definition of your free product. In fact, the idea was to show the customer your product was worth paying for, but I guess it's time to have them buy Idera, which is signifigantly faster than your product.

As for the logs, they don't show any attempts to run and since I run them manually to get backups they don't run automatically thus no logs to give you.

We a trying to reproduce your issue, but without success. So, we can only guess without any detailed technical information.
If it's possible, please send us your .jobx file and log file. Also please try to find errors in Windows Event Log records related to "SqlBackupAndFtp" and "SBFService" sources if you are using SQLBackupAndFTP service.

Idera is a good product, but is costs 995$ per instance. In fact we cannot be sure if using non-native SQL backups is always better than native.
